چکیده

The rate of a catalytic reaction is governed by the underlying mechanism, i.e. the sequence of elementary reaction steps, and depends on the external control parameters such as the concentrations (= partial pressures) pj of educt and product species and temperature T, if transport processes are excluded in this context. More specifically, usually the adsorbed species are assumed to be randomly distributed over the surface, and their concentrations (= coverages) θi are described within a mean-field approximation so that the reaction rate (= number of molecules r formed per unit time, dnr/dtt) is given by

Wave of chaos: new mechanism of pattern formation in spatio-temporal population dynamics.

The dynamics of a simple prey-predator system is described by a system of two reaction- diffusion equations with biologically reasonable non-linearities (logistic growth of the prey, Holling type II functional response of the predator). We show that, when the local kinetics of the system is oscillatory, for a wide class of initial conditions the evolution of the system leads to the formation of...

Pattern formation in active oscillatory media and its relation to associative memory networks

We continue to study the arrays of nonlinear coupled oscillators. The networks of associative memory based on limit-cycle oscillators connected via complex-valued Hermitian matrices were previously designed. Another class of networks consisting of locally connected nonlinear oscillators, closely related to so-called cellular neural networks, is the subject of study in the present paper. In spat...

Noise-induced oscillatory behavior in field-dependent relaxational dynamics.

By considering inertial effects in a field-dependent relaxational model, we show that noise may induce collective oscillatory dynamics. In agreement with the recently introduced idea of noise-induced multistability, we show that there is a region in parameter space where such behavior depends on the initial condition. Moreover, when the coupling term leads to pattern formation by means of a mor...

Breathing current domains in globally coupled electrochemical systems: a comparison with a semiconductor model.

Spatio-temporal bifurcations and complex dynamics in globally coupled intrinsically bistable electrochemical systems with an S-shaped current-voltage characteristic under galvanostatic control are studied theoretically on a one-dimensional domain. The results are compared with the dynamics and the bifurcation scenarios occurring in a closely related model which describes pattern formation in se...

Spatio{temporal Dynamics near a Supercritical Turing{hopf Bifurcation in a Two{dimensional Reaction{diiusion System

Pattern formation in semiconductor heterostructures is studied on the basis of a spatially two{dimensional model of reaction{diiusion type. In particular, we investigate the neighbourhood of a codimension{two Turing{Hopf instability by analytical methods. Amplitude equations are derived which predict the absence of mixed modes but extended ranges of bistability between homogeneous oscillatory s...
